The South African Communist Party (SACP) Young Communist League in KwaZulu-Natal has accused former president Jacob Zuma and the late IFP leader Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi of stealing ANC possessions.

The accusations were made during the Chris Hani memorial lecture organised by the SACP at Inkosi Bhambatha Region in Nquthu on Sunday.

KZN SACP Young Communist League chairperson Sandile Dayi said that the ANC created Inkatha yeNkululeko during the struggle but Buthelezi stole it and created the IFP in 1975.

Before then it was a cultural organisation commissioned by OR Tambo of the ANC who instructed Buthelezi to form it in order to keep the ANC struggle inside the country.

Dayi said history repeated itself when Zuma stole uMkhonto Wesizwe and turned it into his own political breakaway party from the ANC.

“Umkhonto weSizwe is the ANC armed wing. It is unfortunate that Zuma has decided to mislead the people and steal the ANC’s property which is MK. He is doing exactly what Buthelezi did when he stole Inkatha yeNkululeko from the ANC and turned it into his political party,” said Dayi.

He recalled the role played by Chris Hani and his controversial stance when he accused Moses Mabhida’s wife of controlling the SACP.

He said some comrades wanted him dead but OR Tambo intervened.

Dayi said Hani was only 25 years old at that time and many young people should learn from his fearless stance in order to save the current ANC and its alliance.

SACP regional chairperson Lucky Moloi said that before Hani was killed he came to KZN to address the communist rally in Newcastle which was the last gathering he addressed before he was killed at his home in Boksburg.

“Till today his words are still ringing in my ears because I was there,” said Moloi.

“We need to make it clear that the SACP are fully behind the ANC ahead of the 29 May general elections.”

Hani was radical in such a way that during the first ANC elective conference in 1993 in Durban Westville he fought Thabo Mbeki.

Chief Bhambatha Sanco Regional Secretary Joe Sikhakhane reminded the SACP that Hani also belongs to them.

He called on the Nquthu people to remember Hani’s sacrifices when they cast their vote on 29 May.

“The ANC is not supposed to campaign in RDP communities because they know what the organisation has done to them but they have forgotten that. They need to be reminded that they are living in houses that were built by the ANC led government,” said Sikhakhane.
