Orlando Pirates legend Sebola picks Mabasa over Mamelodi Sundowns' Ribeiro for the PSL Golden Boot

Orlando Pirates forward Tshegofatso Mabasa and Mamelodi Sundowns' Lucas Ribeiro Costa are currently the joint leaders on<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/premier-soccer-league-top-scorers-2023-24-peter-shalulile-zakhele-lepasa-chibuike-ohizu-and-the-race-for-golden-boot/blt11d9afef3d5ec5d9" target="_blank"> the Premier Soccer League scorers' chart</a> with 11 goals each.The PSL campaign is nearing it's conclusion and the race to finish the season with the most goals is heating up, just like the bid for <a href="https://www.goal.com/lists/mamelodi-sundowns-coach-rhulani-mokwena-chooses-ronwen-williams-over-orlando-pirates-patrick-maswanganyi-as-his-pick-for-the-psl-footballer-of-the-season-award/blted2dd4602d5b89cc#csfec6c0a5fb4b3a7f" target="_blank">the PSL Footballer of the Season gong. </a>Andries Sebola, a Pirates legend nominates the player he believes is primed to walk away with the Golden Boot.

WHAT HAPPENED?

"I strongly believe Mabasa will finish top of the scoring charts," Sebola told <a href="https://www.sowetanlive.co.za/sport/soccer/2024-04-25-sebola-tips-mabasa-for-psl-golden-boot/" target="_blank">Sowetan Live.</a>&nbsp;"He's on fire&nbsp;and&nbsp;Pirates' other attackers like [Relebohile] Mofokeng, [Patrick] Maswanganyi&nbsp;and [Kabelo] Dlamini are also in a good space, meaning he's playing with freedom and without pressure."He's capable of scoring at least five goals in the remaining six league games, so I see him finishing with at least 15 goals."He can easily score a brace against Royal AM on Sunday. I think he's also pushing himself to win it," the ex-Bucs star added."Ribeiro hasn't played many games [he's played 15 in the league so far] because of injuries and rotations,&nbsp;so that&nbsp;put him on the back foot&nbsp;a bit."I won't be surprised if he goes on to miss more games&nbsp;and&nbsp;that will give Mabasa an advantage again to win the Golden Boot," he concluded.&nbsp;

WHAT SEBOLA SAID

Hoping that he will not get injured or suspended, Mabasa is left with six league games to add to his 11 goals.But Ribeiro, on the other hand, has more opportunities to increase his tally as Sundowns have eight remaining PSL matches and the Brazilians will also be hoping to stay fit.Closely behind the joint-leaders on the scorers' chart is Cape Town City forward Khanyisa who is on 10 goals and would be fancying to take the lead during the Citizens' last six league outings.SuperSport United's Bradley Grobler and Stellenbosch forward Iqraam Rayners are each on eight goals but a single hat trick would immediately put them amongst the leaders.
