Orlando Pirates bolster Caf Champions League prospects with dominant display in PSL win over Royal AM

Pirates dominated the early stages, as evidenced by Thabiso Lebitso's attempt from a rebound in the box after 12 minutes, although his shot lacked power and was saved by goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto. Shortly afterward, Lebitso sustained an injury and was replaced by Thabiso Monyane.The Buccaneers’ pressure paid off after they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Patrick Maswanganyi, which contact appeared to occur outside the box. With their lead doubled, Pirates seized greater control of the match, and in the 74th minute, Relebohile Mofokeng demonstrated poise in front of goal, neatly slotting home their third goal of the game.If the home crowd believed Pirates were done, they were mistaken, as Kabelo Dlamini scored a superb goal from a tight angle just outside the box to make it 4-0. Pirates' triumph helps them hold onto the third position in the PSL standings, trailing second-placed Stellenbosch by three points, while Royal AM currently occupies the 13th spot.

The hosts began the match brightly, showing promise and even creating opportunities to equalize in the first half. However, as the game wore on into the second period, they seemed to take their feet off the pedal, allowing goals to rain down at Harry Gwala Stadium.

THE BIG LOSER

The Buccaneers will redirect their attention to a midweek league clash against Cape Town City away in the Mother City on Wednesday, May 1st. Following this, they will face Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup semi-final on Saturday, May 4th.
