‘EFF won’t lose votes in KZN’ — Malema

Despite rumours suggesting that several former supporters of the EFF have begun supporting Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK), EFF president Julius Malema believes his party will not see a decline in voter support in KwaZulu-Natal.

Malema was responding to the latest Ipsos report for political parties that shows the emergence of MK has affected the growth of the EFF in KZN.

In 2019 the EFF received 349,361 votes with 9.71% support in the province.

The ANC got more support with 54.22% of the votes while the IFP won 16.34% and the DA received 13.90%.

“The EFF has shown significant growth over the years as compared to other political parties across the country,” Malema said on Wednesday.

“Even though there is growth everywhere else, we have difficulty growing in KZN. If we don’t make inroads in the province the growth everywhere else will be undermined by the decline in KZN.”

He said they have turned around the situation in KZN by redeploying EFF deputy president, Floyd Shivambu, to the province.

“Every day without fail they are engaged with the masses of our people of KZN,” said Malema.

“We received 350,000 votes in 2019 and hope to get more than that in the upcoming elections. I can confidently say the number of EFF votes will not decline.”

Malema said KZN is a new area for them as a new organisation in the province as the ANC and IFP have been the major two parties there.

“To break that ground and to be introduced as a new baby in the province is not an easy thing, but we are making serious inroads,” he said.
