What started as a dispute because the TV channel had been changed turned deadly for a Gqeberha woman, Desiree Baartman, as her ex-husband, Johnny Baartman, then proceeded to strike her repeatedly against the head until her body lay entirely still.
The gruesome details surrounding the brutal death of Desiree were finally revealed in the Eastern Cape High Court in Gqeberha when her ex-husband and murderer, Baartman, confessed.
As part of a plea agreement with the State, Baartman, 59, a former secondary school teacher, detailed the events of that fateful day on 12 June last year when he beat Desiree to death and then wrapped her head in several towels because of the "excessive bleeding".
