- A barber advises men to use hair serums to maintain their hair.
- He also recommends pomade cream and grooming tonic.
- He also recommends not to have cornrows installed for more than a month.
Gents, please forget all stereotypes made for men who enjoy taking care of their hair.
A haircut once a week may not be enough, you might have to do a bit more to make sure that your hair looks salon-fresh.
We got in touch with the barber and owner of Beard Boys Saood Mota who gave us some general tips on how to maintain your hair, no matter the hair type.
Pomade to restore nutrients
Saood says pomade is a great product for all types of hair. He advises men to use a cream pomade, “which will add nutrients back into the hair. It will assist with styling the hair as well and general maintenance on it,” says Saood.
Restoring your hairline
Barbers can push back your hairline when trimming and you might need to grow it back to its original position.
It might take a bit of time but you can simply leave it to grow back naturally, meaning that you should not be trimming during that period.
Alternatively, you can use a hair growth serum that can be beneficial for growing your beard as well.

How long should you have cornrows on
Saood does not recommend that men keep cornrows on for more than a month. “It does pull on the roots and it does damage the hair,” says Saood, explaining why having cornrows for too long can harm your hair.
A hair grooming tonic can be used to maintain cornrows.
Do not use too many products or change products frequently
As much as you want to ensure that your hair is healthy, you do not want to overdo it. Saood says you should not use too many products and change products frequently because you will not see whether the product is effective or not.
Saood usually advises his clients to use his products for at least six months to see whether they work or not.
Hairstyles that are easily maintainable for men
“All hairstyles are easily maintainable as long as you use the correct products and you don’t overdo it with the products,” says Saood, encouraging the gents to explore different hairstyles. They should just use the correct products and quantities to maintain their hairstyles.
Unfortunately, gents, maintaining your hair takes a little more involvement than a weekly visit to your barber. Take Saood's advice and keep your routine simple by using the correct products for your hair needs.
