Jackpot Images Preview New Paul Feig Movie With John Cena, Awkwafina

The first look images for Jackpot have been revealed (via Entertainment Weekly), showing the ensemble cast of Paul Feig’s new action comedy. Set to hit Prime Video on August 15, the upcoming movie — previously under the working title Grand Death Lotto — stars Awkwafina as a lottery winner who suddenly becomes an assassination target.

What is Jackpot about?

The upcoming action comedy follows Awkwafina’s Katie, whose accidental possession of a winning lottery ticket makes her an assassination target in a wicked contest that allows people to prey on the winners so they can get the prize money themselves. The catch is that they only have one day to seize the winner. Katie will soon team up with amateur jackpot protector Noel (John Cena) in order to survive the day and escape random enemies. The film also stars Simu Liu as Louis Lewis, another jackpot protector who wants a share of Katie’s win.

Feig is known for directing various comedy features, including Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy, and Ghostbusters. The filmmaker is also the director behind 2018’s A Simple Favor, which has recently been confirmed to be receiving a sequel. However, the director has always wanted to produce his own Jackie Chan movie. And, according to him, Jackpot serves as the Jackie Chan movie he has always wanted to make.

“This is the Jackie Chan movie I always wished I could make. What I love about Jackie Chan movies is that he’s a real, everyman caught in a situation he doesn’t want to be in. He’s the master of panicked fighting versus ‘I’m cool, and I’m going to take you on,’” Feig told EW.

He continued, “It’s not Bruce Lee. It’s the ‘Get away from me, get away from me’ type of action. I don’t like mayhem and action for action’s sake. It always has to advance the plot, be character-driven, and find the humor in people who aren’t normally in these situations getting in these situations — and how they get themselves out of it.”

Jackpot hits Prime Video on August 15.
