Sakamoto Days: Is There an Anime Adaptation?

Many fans are curious if there is a Netflix anime adaptation of Sakamoto Days. A lot of manga readers enjoy this action and comedy series about a former hitman, so it would seem like a natural fit for the streaming service, in many respects. Here is a guide on whether there will be a Sakamoto Days anime.

Is Sakamoto Days getting an anime?

As of May 2024, there are no official announcements so far from author Yuto Suzuki or Shueisha regarding a Sakamoto Days anime adaptation.

There have been some rumors this week about Netflix picking up Sakamoto Days for an anime adaptation. These rumors have been going around on X (formerly Twitter) after the License Global May 2024 issue listed Sakamoto Days as one of the upcoming Netflix releases for 2024. Check out the post below:

However, as of May 22, Sakamoto Days is no longer on the list in License Global’s article. TMS Entertainment is the studio rumored to be handling the adaptation. Some of their works include Fruits Basket (2019), Dr. Stone, and Detective Conan.

News of the seemingly accidental leak spread throughout the anime community. Many fans were expressing their disappointment towards Netflix, considering how previous anime adaptations have turned out under their service. Fans were also suspicious since there haven’t been any teaser visuals or trailers, and we’re almost halfway into 2024.

Sakamoto Days is a shonen manga by Yuto Suzuki. Shueisha began serializing the manga in their Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in November 2020. There are currently 16 volumes available in Japanese.

Meanwhile, Viz Media is the North American publisher of the series. There are 11 volumes available in English. Volume 12 is scheduled for release on June 4 and it is available for pre-order on the Viz Media website.

When is the Sakamoto Days anime release date?

Unfortunately, there is no release date yet for the Sakamoto Days anime.

There is no confirmation so far regarding an anime adaptation, only rumors. Considering the series’ popularity and consistent chapter releases, currently, there is enough content for the start of a Sakamoto Days anime. For now, fans will have to wait for the announcement. Stay tuned for more updates.

Interested manga readers should definitely check it out. It’s highly recommended for readers who enjoy series like Spy x Family, since they have common plot elements.

The official synopsis of Sakamoto Days from Viz Media reads:

“Taro Sakamoto was once a legendary hit man considered the greatest of all time. Bad guys feared him! Assassins revered him! But then one day he quit, got married, and had a baby. He’s now living the quiet life as the owner of a neighborhood store, but how long can Sakamoto enjoy his days of retirement before his past catches up to him?!”
