The KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban has dismissed, with costs, a media application to broadcast proceedings in the corruption case against former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and others, citing the safety of witnesses.
Judge Sharmaine Balton heard the application by eNCA, the SABC and Newzroom Afrika in October last year, but delivered her ruling on Friday.
The matter dates back to July last year when Balton imposed a blanket ban on the taping of recordings, at the insistence of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
